Eternity bands are a type of ring design that is meaningful, symbolic, and beautiful. They are popular as wedding rings for brides, as well as for commemorating wedding anniversaries and other special occasions. Eternity bands are usually made up of a metal ring surrounded by gemstones, most commonly diamonds.

When purchasing an eternity band, consider the type of setting used to keep the stones in place, as this affects the overall aesthetics of the ring. There are four different kinds of eternity band settings. These can be set to fully encircle the band or to just encircle half of it, resulting in half and full eternity rings.

Eternity Band – Prong Setting

The prong setting has prongs that keep the diamonds or gemstones in place. There are usually four prongs into which the diamond is carefully placed. The prongs cling to the diamonds, holding them in place. From the top, you'd just see the tips of the prongs and the bare minimum of metal. While there is more metal obstructing the diamond on the sides, prong settings allow you to see the sides of the diamond. Prong settings are intended to optimise the diamond's exposure while keeping it safe. This makes for excellent light output, making the eternity band sparkle.

Eternity Band – Chanel Setting

A channel set eternity ring, as the name suggests, has stones set inside a channel in the metal circle. The diamonds are carefully placed side by side in this channel and are kept in place by the channel walls. The channel's lips grip the diamond girdles to keep them from slipping out. The channel setting is extremely secure since it protects the diamond from exposure. And if the eternity ring is knocked against something, the metal is damaged rather than the diamonds. Another significant advantage of channel set eternity rings is that they do not snag on anything, making them easier and more convenient to wear for the majority of people.

Eternity Band – Bezel Setting

Bezel set rings for eternity are seldom to be found, although they make very good ring styles. Here, the diamonds are mounted in a metal surrounding the stone individually. Every rounded metal stone is then softened to form the ring together carefully. Bezel eternity bands are extremely secure and have the best security for diamonds. However, since you just get a top view of the diamond, they reduce its sparkle and brilliance. The sides are entirely made of metal.

Eternity Bands – Bar Settings

The diamonds in a bar set eternity band are kept in place by bar dividers. The diamonds are isolated from one another by a metal strip, as seen in the picture above. This breaks up the smooth, continuous appearance of diamonds sitting next to each other, but it also provides a fascinating arrangement in its own right. Metal and diamonds are alternated in bar set eternity rings, with equal emphasis on each. A bar setting for eternity bands is a lovely and one-of-a-kind alternative. Of course, unlike prong set eternity rings, the sparkle and brilliance are diminished due to the fewer diamonds and increased visible metal.
